Mark your calendars! The Junk Bonanza is right around the corner and the 4French Hens are getting busy! There's much to do . . . painting, sewing, hauling, gluing, glittering . . . you name it, we'll be doing it! And of course the most important thing is SHOPPING! How could I forget shopping - garage sales, flea markets, antique shops, Goodwill and stopping at the end of someones driveway to check out their discards? Hmmmm . . . could I fix that? paint it? cut it up? Who knows, but it's the fun part of being a vendor at the Junk Bonanza.
This is the 4th year the 4French Hens have been JB vendors. Our first adventure was at the Medina Ballroom - we had a great set-up, met fabulous people and enjoyed ourselves immensely - well, maybe not all the rain and the lights going out all afternoon on Friday, BUT we were not in the big white tent outside where 'a river ran through it'. We really had no complaints. Ki came around and handed out candles [the 2" ones] and we kept our sense of humor and had major discussions about everything.
Year #2 found us at Canterbury Downs. What a wonderful venue. Once we figured out how to get into it, we unloaded and had one day to set up. This was the year we rented a van and loaded and unloaded the dang thing 3 or 4 times because . . . well, I guess the reason is . . . we're poor packers! After all, we're two retired teachers who aren't used to loading trucks. Sometimes I wonder just how people do all the hauling and loading more than once a year! Since it's once a year for us, we will not whine. We renewed friendships, made some new ones, my daughter Molly came from Michigan to help and we wore ourselves out, loving every minute of it. The best thing of all was the LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION! We ended up in the main building, 3rd vendor in from the tent across from the Restrooms and the ATM machine!
Year #3 found us in the same place, same spot and we've made it our home. The only problem last year was that we had too much stuff! So, we had to make some quick decisions about what went back out to the car. It wasn't too bad until I backed my Jeep into one of the gate posts leading to the track and had to have a long chat with a couple of Canterbury officials. [They were very nice. I must add that I do have a problem with backing into things - besides other cars, there has been a mailbox, a picket fence and I'm sure some other 'obstacles'.] Anyway, last year was one of our best years because the place was loaded with people. And it rained again! But no blackouts!
This year? Year 4? Well, I've been crazy busy painting, sewing, marking, packing . . . all the good things I love about the Junk Bonanza. I try not to procrastinate but . . . you know how that goes. I've loved the shopping and the creating - my house is a mess - I can't get the stain off my hands and furniture is piled on my deck because the garage is full! God bless my neighbors! We'll be at the same place with our goods and wares - ready to meet you! Be sure to stop by.
Oh yes - the WE is Kendra and me I! The two remaining 4French Hens. See you soon!
